I Have a Dream

Age Level: Middle Grades to College
Cast: 9W, 10M, 6 optional
Time: 30 to 40 minutes

The epic events of the fifties and sixties that brought freedom and equality to black citizens are revisited in this dramatic narrative. A lively retrospective of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. that demonstrates that one person can inspire others to make a difference. In the narrative sequences performers and audience see how the courage of Rosa Parks, the non-violent youth protesters, the civil rights coalition and the freedom marchers overcame the KKK and segregationists. The program allows many performers to experience for themselves the power of personal inspiration as expressed in the song "We Shall Overcome." This dramatic and comprehensive script may be performed on stage, on film or for a radio program. A superb, all-class project. Discussion questions included.
